Salts, method of making salts and uses
Salt
When replaceable hydrogen atoms of an acid is partially or completely replaced by metal atoms, the resulting compound is called salt.
For example,
HCl + Na -------> NaCl + H2
Acid metal salt
Salts are ionic compound. The first part of the name is metal ion and second part of the name is of negative part of the acid.

Methode of making salts
There are five methods for making salts.
1. Acid + Base -------------> Salt + water 💧
HCl + NaOH -------------> NaCl + H2O
2. Acid + Metal oxide --------> Salt + water
H2SO4 + CuO -----------------> CuSO4 + H2O
3. Acid + Metal ------------------> Salt + hydrogen
2HCl + Mg -------------> MgCl2 + H2
4. Acid + Metal carbonates--------> Salt + carbon dioxide + water
HCl + CaCO3 ------------> CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O
5. Salt1 + Salt2 -------------> Salt3 + Salt4
AgNO3 + NaCl --------------> AgCl + NaNO3
Uses
In ancient times, food was preserved by drying, salting, boiling etc. , however now a days, foods are being preserved by addition of salts as preservatives. They resist in physical and chemical processes that cause spoiling of food.
Many foods that are produced in one location in the country can be sent to other region even overseas with these preservatives.
Without salts (preservatives), food can be spoiled before reaching the final destination.
Many salts like sulphates or benzoate are being used in food for centuries.
Question: How are health problems that preservatives can cause ?
Answer. Preservatives are designed to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage. However, sometimes they can cause health problems. Some preservatives may cause breathing difficulties, can weaken heart ❤️ tissues and may result in cancer diseases.
Many people are allergic or sensitive to preservatives. Some preservatives are safe in small amount but toxic in larger amount.
